Free Quotes

While driving in South Auckland, I found a discarded sign by the side of the road. The sign said 'FREE QUOTES' and must've belonged to one of the mechanics shops in the area. Taking a liking to it, I picked it up and put it in the back of the car with the intention of painting on it when I got home...

It only took 11,000 miles and about 3 years to finally get down to it.

Infinite Histories

"History is written by the victors" gives credence to the notion that historical events are not singularly quantifiable, but are more so a culmination of multiple actions and consequences viewed from many perspectives.

The Infinite Histories paintings are based on this, and consists of opposing stills taken from an animation of a rotating skull. The polar opposite views were then freeze-framed and combined to create a hybrid, with equal priority given to each perspective.

The paintings were created over a two year period using subject matter and materials that allude to the passage of time, dissemination, preservation and alteration. Media includes: Xerox transfers, bitumen, cardboard, metal, gold leaf, correction fluid and spray paint.

Infinite Histories (iii) & (iv) were made in 2012. Infinite Histories (i), 2010, and Infinite Histories (ii), 2011.

Sisyphus II' & 'A Concrete Truth' series

I'm building a new body of work based on 'Sisyphus', a piece I created in New Zealand, 2008. The work is minimalistic in manner and uses lines of coloured concrete to define form. The earlier pieces, Sisyphus and Sisyphus II, are literal in subject matter – using a circle to represent the rock and an incline to represent the mountainside, (the subject of the ancient Greek myth). The work was inspired by Robert Garioch's Scots poem 'Sisyphus' which I first heard at school over 25 years ago. (Narration of the poem with animation here)

'A Concrete Truth' series
This ongoing series, is a later development in a minimalistic style without symbolism or pictorial matter. It's an exploration of line and illusory depth pared back to the minimum. To borrow a line from Frank Stella: "What you see is what you see."

A Film Documentary On The Megaro Project

This new documentary by Timid AoC details the creation of our recently completed 450 square metre mural opposite St. Pancras International in Kings Cross, London. The mural, painted by myself and three fellow members of Agents of Change - Remi/Rough, LX.One and Augustine Kofie encompasses two sides of a five storey Georgian building...

KARPO RESTAURANT COMMISSION

Just finished working on The Karpo Project with Remi Rough, Augustine Kofie and LX One. The commission involved painting a six storey Georgian building in the heart of Kings Cross, London, as well as producing 14 artworks for a permanent collection in the Restaurant. Here's my four and also a selection of the other works on show.

We're also getting some great press coverage for the Mural via the Evening Standard and Creative Review. Photographer, Ian Cox took the shots for the CR article. He also documented the mural in progress. For more of Ian's photos of the mural check out Wallkandy.

I'm happy with how this collaboration with Remi Rough turned out:
